Founding Strumlords members Noel Grondie and Tom Aamot met at a public Open Mic in Lake rom the Havasu City in 2006. Each one came from their own musical background. Noel, from Orange County, California where he played electric guitar, but then went on to play electric bass in a Steely Dan tribute band that performed throughout Southern California for years, before moving on to beautiful Lake Havasu City. Noel was also an accomplished Electric-Acoustic guitarist, which caught the ear of local blues and rock guitarist Tom Aamot, from Tacoma Washington, who had been playing regularly in local Havasu rock bands since 1999. They decided to try teaming upon acoustic guitars, also with “Gor” (Gordon) Cannady, a friend of Noel’s, on lead vocals.
The trio began working up an extensive songlist of favorite Acoustic Rock songs from the 60’s, 70’s, 80’s and 90’s. Their idea was to play great songs in small venues where the patrons could carry on conversations without having to shout over the music. That formula made the Strumlords popular in local restaurants and bars around Havasu, playing Classic Acoustic Rock from artists such as the Beatles, America, Neil Young, CS&N, Eagles, Eric Clapton, Tom Petty and a host of other artists.
